As the spring semester begins at the University of West Florida, one thing is clear: Argonaut athletics is entering the new season with confidence, momentum, and championship expectations across the board.
From the hardwood to the diamond, from the pool to the softball field, UWF teams are either building on strong starts or preparing to launch what could be special seasons. The foundation has been set, and now it’s time for the Argos to take the next step.
Men’s Basketball:
The UWF men’s basketball team has been one of the hottest squads in the Gulf South Conference this season. Sitting at 14–3 overall and riding an eight-game win streak, the Argos have established themselves as a serious contender in conference play.
With consistency on both ends of the floor and a roster that continues to grow together, UWF has built a brand of basketball that’s been difficult to slow down. As the heart of the season approaches, the Argos look poised for a strong push toward the postseason.

Women’s Basketball:
Coming off a 20-win season and an NCAA Tournament appearance, the UWF women’s basketball program enters 2026 with high expectations once again. The Argos currently hold an 11–5 overall record and were picked fourth in the Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
With a veteran roster and postseason experience, UWF is once again positioning itself as a team capable of making a deep conference tournament run. After finishing 15–7 in league play last season and reaching the GSC semifinals, the Argos are focused on building toward another March push.

Baseball:
UWF Baseball opens 2026 as the No. 1 team in the Gulf South Conference preseason rankings, setting the tone for what could be another banner year for the program.
The Argos return a strong core and will open the 2026 season on January 30. With expectations high and depth across the roster, UWF enters the season with its sights set firmly on the postseason.

Softball:
Fresh off a historic 2025 season that included 38 wins, a GSC Tournament Championship, and a return to the NCAA South Regional, UWF Softball enters its 41st season with championship experience and a roster loaded with returners.
Head coach Ashleigh McLean, now in her eighth season, brings a 230–107 record and a program culture built on consistency and postseason success. The Argos return their entire bullpen and eight major contributors to the batting lineup, setting the stage for another season with big expectations.
They open their season by first traveling to Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 30 to face multiple games with Nova Southeastern and Barry before heading to Chattanooga for four more non-conference games.

Women’s Swimming & Diving:
The UWF women’s swim and dive team made an immediate statement to open 2026, cruising past Ouachita Baptist with an impressive 154–66 victory. The dominant performance highlighted the depth and talent across the roster as the Argos continue to build momentum early in the season. With a strong returning core and confidence already in place, UWF is once again positioning itself as one of the top programs in the conference.

With momentum from the fall, and strong starts in the winter, Argonaut Nation is entering 2026 with confidence, depth, and belief. The work has been done. Now it’s time to see just how far these teams can go.
Spring is here. The standard is set. And the Argos are ready.
