It is safe to say that 2025 was a busy year in filmmaking, with hundreds of new films being released. In no particular order, this is your guide to some of the best new releases this year that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Weapons

The film Weapons is a supernatural mystery horror directed, written, and produced by Zach Creggor. One night at exactly 2:17 AM, all but one kid from a classroom disappeared from their homes in the middle of the night. The only piece of evidence tied to the disappearances is footage from some of the parents’ security cameras of the kids running out of the homes with outstretched arms into darkness. The disappearances leave the parents and community questioning. The film follows the different perspectives of people trying to uncover what exactly happened that night. F1: The Movie

The F1 Movie is an action-packed film directed by Joseph Kosinski. Actor Brad Pitt plays the role of Sonny Hayes, a former F1 driver who was on his uprise until a huge accident on the track causes him to retire from Formula 1. 30 years after the accident, Sonny’s former teammate and the owner of a struggling team known as APXGP, convinces him to become the team’s second driver alongside hotshot rookie Joshua Pearce, played by actor Damson Idris. Superman

The film Superman is an action/sci-fi directed by James Gunn. Actor David Corenswet portrays Superman, also known as Clark Kent, as he navigates his dual identity as both human and Kryptonian. Superman’s actions are quickly questioned after he gets into conflicts both at home and beyond, giving Lex Luther, portrayed by actor Nicholas Hoult, the opportunity to manipulate the public and government opinion to portray Superman as a threat to the world. Frankenstein

The film Frankenstein is a horror/sci-fi directed by Guillermo del Toro. Actor Oscar Isaac portrays Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant yet somewhat disturbing scientist. Victor becomes obsessed with the idea of conquering death. Going as far as creating a monstrous creature (portrayed by actor Jacob Elordi) from the body parts and organs of the deceased. The film is divided into two parts: the first being Victor’s journey of how this all came to be, and the second being the creature’s journey and what life was like for him after his creation. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

This film is an action/thriller directed by Christopher McQuarrie, and it is the final film in the Mission: Impossible series. Actor Tom Cruise portrays Ethan Hunt, a highly skilled agent of the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). In The Final Reckoning, Ethan’s final mission is facing “the Entity,” a rogue AI attempting to take over global mainframes and potentially ending the world. The film follows Ethan and his team as they take on both the Entity and ghosts from their past, trying to stop them.
