On Jan. 21, 2024, Ron DeSantis announced the suspension of his Republican presidential campaign as he ended the race before the New Hampshire primary. Despite dropping out of the race and the many back-and-forth disputes, the Florida governor continued to show support and advocate for Trump’s candidacy instead of “the old Republican guard of yesteryear, a repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism” Haley.
During DeSantis’ announcement, Haley stated that DeSantis “ran a great race” and wished him well, but emphasized that “it’s now one fella and one lady left”. The former president responded with a pacified tone as he believes that DeSantis is a “really terrific person” and “looks forward to working with Ron”.
Back on May 24, 2023, DeSantis entered the Republican primary contest as he was considered Trump’s strongest rival and put up the fight that he was more electable. Throughout the campaign, Trump and his campaign knew that DeSantis was his strongest threat as he would refer to him as “Ron DeSanctimonious” and “Meatball Ron” while questioning his public character. In addition, there were many doubts about DeSantis not engaging with the voters and party leaders plus a lack of charisma, leading to the decline of his campaign early on.
With the announcement of DeSantis dropping out, this left Trump and his campaign team to let out the biggest sigh of relief as their threat was defused and to assert dominance within the Republican party
New Hampshire primary results: Haley gets ‘Trumped’ and Biden written in:
Donald Trump won the New Hampshire Republican primary with 54.3% over Nikki Haley who trailed with 43.3% on January 23, 2024. With this win, Trump will advance toward securing a GOP Presidential nomination. On the contrary, Haley vows that she will continue to put up a fight against Trump for the GOP nomination. However, the Trump administration was not very exhilarated by this response and will do everything they can to humiliate Haley, especially in the upcoming primary date for South Carolina– Haley’s home state.
Haley has a lot of work to put forth as Trump has 32 delegates while she only has 17. The GOP Nomination requires at least 1,215 out of 2,429 delegates awarded as part of the primary process
On the opposing side, Joe Biden had won the primary as a write-in candidate with 55.8% as he did not appear on the ballot following an internal party issue over the primary date– therefore leading to a campaign to write his name in. After the results came out, Biden knew that “it is now clear that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee. And my message to the country is the stakes could not be higher”.
Gearing up for primaries
From the looks of it, current President, Joe Biden, and former president, Donald J Trump, will be gearing up and feuding once again for this year’s presidential election. Both administrations declare that they will be preparing early for their campaigns to win and gain a majority of votes from each state.
Currently, the two candidates have both been questioned in terms of whether they are suitable to be running once more for the presidency as Trump has faced multiple controversies such as the January 6 Capitol attack, impeachable offenses, and indictments. Biden has received backlash towards his reluctance towards a ceasefire for Gaza, the Hunter Biden case, and the failure of student loan forgiveness. However, there is no doubt that the presidential race will be a close one as there will be no easy feat for either party.
It is within the voters’ hands to essentially decide who will run America for the next four years. As every vote matters and counts we have the power to choose the future of our country.
