UWF’s mens basketball team opened their 2022-23 season strong on Nov. 12 with a 31-point victory over Clark Atlanta University at the UWF Field House. The Argonauts decimated the Panthers in the first half and then battled to finish the game 98-67.

Junior Daniel Sofield was the top scorer for the Argos, finishing the game with 20 points and 5 assists. Seniors David Homme and WendellMatthews also poured in 12 and 10 points respectively.

Sophomore Jalen Williams led the Panthers with a 29-point outing.

Free pizza was provided at the game for the first 100 students, likely contributing to the high attendance rate at the Field House.

The Argos then fought a closer game at home the following evening against Fort Valley State, finishing with a score of 63-57. Sofield led all scorers with 21 while spark plug LaTrell Tate added 11 points for the Argos.

K.J. Doucet led the Wildcats’ effort with 13 points and three assists for the evening.

Cruising on a two game win streak, the Argos will face the Shorter University Hawks on Nov. 17. The game will once again be played at the UWF Field House. Free t-shirts will be provided by the university’s College of Health in order to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s.
