The University of West Florida Volleyball team celebrated senior night Friday evening and defeated the Auburn Montgomery War Hawks in three sets.

The night started out with honoring the five seniors as they played their last regular season home game before GSC tournament, this final win of the regular season kept them undefeated in GSC play.

The starting lineup included all five seniors, Marissa Hackett, Phoebe Hozeska, Jordyn Poppen, Ebony Powers and Brogan Wallins.

“You know we ran a different lineup tonight so that all of them could be on the floor together which is really hard with five, but I thought they played really hard,” UWF Head Coach Melissa Wolter said.

During the first set junior Ashton Marshall,  saved a point with a swish of her foot as she dived in to get the ball securing the first set for UWF..

During the second set the Argonauts were a powerhouse as they continued to stay focused even throughout all the War Hawk fans heckling with the referees. Ending the second set with the final round point scored by Powers.

The heat was turned up entering the third set as the War Hawk’s and Argo’s held their own going toe to toe on points. Ending the game scoring the final three points for a three-set win for the Argo’s.

“I feel really good,” Wolter said. “My kids played so hard for each other. It just goes to show what kind of things you can do when people love each other, and they want what is best for each other. It wasn’t perfect, but I told them before the match you know I don’t need you to play perfect, I need you to play hard and that is exactly what they did.”

While the head coach and fans were excited over the win, the team glowed with pride as they all gathered for a group photo after the game to capture the moment after this special senior night victory.

I feel like that is the best we have ever played and that we all played for each other,” UWF senior Phoebe Hozeska. “It was a team win and we did our best.”

Hozeska also said that she thinks that they are really prepared and feels they have a good outlook on the future as they are ready to keep winning games as they head into tournaments.

The UWF volleyball team will now head into the GSC tournament from Friday, November 22th through Sunday, November 24th.
