enter site Sexual assault is unfortunately a topic that has been lingering around for a long time. In the United States, 1-in-5 women have been or will be a victim of sexual abuse during their lifetime, according to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN). But not only are women victims of sexual assault; 1-in-71 men will be victims of sexual assault as well.

brand free levitra price Being that this is a trending topic in today’s society, it is very important that awareness is raised to help prevent sexual abuse in the future. The importance of consent is also going to be stressed at the event hosted by the UWF Sigmas, because studies show that 51 percent of assaults are by an intimate partner, someone with which the victim is familiar. Even though people are intimate and may have a previous history of relations, the importance of consent is still a major topic.

The event will be held in the UWF Commons in Conference Room A. This event will include the men of the Beta Beta Phi chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated; National Council of Negro Women; The Tau Beta chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated; and the Eta Upsilon chapter of Delta Sigma Pi.

“We look forward to spreading the world on sexual abuse and also look forward to raising awareness on the importance of consent,” said Chris King, a member of Phi Beta Sigma. “No means no, and maybe means no”.

Phi Beta Sigma looks forward to having as many people in attendance as possible and hopes to raise awareness to the unfortunate occurrences of sexual assault.

According to RAINN, an American is sexually assaulted every 98 seconds. “Breaking the Silence” hopes to contribute to the fight against sexual assault and to bring sexual assault numbers down.
