Men’s Basketball defeats Montevallo, 85-75

PENSACOLA, Fla. –  After losing to Montevallo 80-77 in January, West Florida was ready to make a comeback. On Friday night the Argos were able to soar past the Falcons, 85-75, at the Field House. This victory puts UWF’s record at 5-8, and Montevallo to a 4-5 record. 

Conor Flanagan had a career-high 28 points. Cameron Cox had a season-high with 20 points and five assists, while Tarik Mckelphin had a game-high 11 rebounds.

West Florida remained in the lead for the first half. Their lead stayed above double digits until UM hit five three pointers and brought the score to a close 36-33 at halftime. 

After halftime the Argos built several double-digit leads with the Falcons answering nearly every time. UWF hit six in the first half and followed it up with seven more in the second half to keep UM at a distance finishing 50% from beyond the arc.

With six minutes left in the game, West Florida led with 12 points. However Montevallo players James McNeil and Ivan Smith made it a six-point game with 56 seconds remaining. Mckelphin was able to block four free-throws to bring the Argos to victory. 

West Florida will play again Friday evening in Montgomery, Alabama at 6 p.m
