On Oct. 10, UWF held their annual Homecoming Colchis concert with record attendance in Building 54, also known as the Field House. The concert featured Tallahassee-born rapper Luh Tyler as opener, and Utah-founded indie-alternative band Neon Trees as headliner.
Luh Tyler performed a set that lasted around 40 minutes, with songs including, “Law & Order.”
After, Neon Trees put on an hour long set, ending on their 2012 hit, “Everybody Talks,” which went No.6 on the Billboard charts on the Billboard Hot 100, their highest and longest charting song in their discography.
The concert was a success, having 1029 attendees checked in and 1589 total registered, according to Jacques Clarck, a member of the Homecoming Executive Board. Last year, comparatively, 436 students checked in with 956 total registered.
When asked about the success of the concert, Clark attributed part of the success to having variety in the genres performed.
“Seeing everything come together, taking a different approach with having two different genres perform, showed me how much a minor change could create a big impact,” said Clark. “The previous years were only rap, so practically the other sides of UWF weren’t really enjoying, but incorporating different styles, forced those to come at least check it out, and people truly loved it.”
