Shining the spotlight on University of West Florida senior Nehemiah Trotman.
The 22-year-old is majoring in information technology and minoring in music. He is on track to graduate in December 2025.
Trotman, a native of Virginia, considers Panama City Beach home. He has lived in numerous places due to his father’s service in the Air Force. He transferred to UWF in 2022 from a junior college in Panama City Beach, saying the transfer process was easy and fluid.
Trotman said he became interested in UWF because of its technology programs, specifically its cybersecurity curriculum. He chose UWF over other schools because it was close to home, affordable and had a strong STEM program.
Since arriving at UWF, Trotman has lived on campus. He said living on campus is fun and has several advantages, including easy access to events, convenience, and opportunities to meet people and stay informed about campus happenings.
When asked what he loves about UWF, Trotman said it’s easy to get help because everyone, from teachers to staff, is willing to assist and help students find what they need. He feels everyone on campus wants to help students succeed.
Memorable events Trotman has attended at UWF include two Homecoming Concerts, Beach Bash, Club UDub, the rides at After Dark and Rocky Horror.
Trotman has participated in a work-study program through University Advancement. He said meeting different people, such as donors, has been an exciting experience, along with attending career fairs. In the summer of 2025, he worked as a hangar bay technician at The National Flight Academy through UWF Partners in Education.
He also has a deep love for music, specifically jazz. While at UWF, he has been a part of the Jazz Band and Jazz Combo. He plays the piano, vibraphone, marimba and melodica.
His passion for jazz has even turned into a side hustle, as he performs gigs for friends and family. You can find him on the first Monday of the month at Odd Colony Brewing Co. for Jazz Jam, Tuesday Night Jazz Night at 1216 North, or at Blues Night on Mondays at Seville Quarter. His Instagram handle is @agent_n30.
In his free time, Trotman likes to go out with friends, play video games, watch TV or go to the movies. The last movie he saw in the theater was “Superman,” which he recommended.
Trotman has grown to love Pensacola, noting its great food, lively downtown scene and many events, such as Gallery Night.
With graduation on the horizon, Trotman is excited for the future and feels well-equipped with the knowledge he has gained. He advises incoming students to attend as many events as possible and take advantage of all the available resources. He said he wished he had taken advantage of the top-tier student gym.
When asked what his dream job and life looks like, Trotman said he wants to pursue a career in his major, and hopefully fund his music on the side.
Based on his ambition and accomplishments at UWF, continued success seems likely for his future.
