After our long summer apart, it’s great to be back on campus and enjoying familiar spots
like the Cannon Greens, Edward Ball Nature Trails, and Camelia Garden. However, some things
are also in the wake of change.
What began as a questionable blue tarp around Building 22, The Commons, around the
walkway area outside the cafeteria, where Chick-fil-A, Which Which, and Twisted Taco operate,
has now finally received a reimagination poster for the public to view. The poster includes
images of what the area outside will look like, showcasing beautiful patio tile laying, round picnic
tables, and greenery scattered throughout.
The Commons Patio Repair Project began on July 16th, at the end of summer, with
school just around the corner. While the university stated that it would only take about two
weeks to complete, including weather delays, the construction fence is still in place in
mid-September.
This installment is just a piece of the bigger picture at hand, as the UWF Comprehensive
Campus Master Plan takes shape before our eyes. This master plan was initially proposed by
our previous university president, Dr. Martha Saunders, with the idea of envisioning what the
campus would and should look like over the next ten years, from 2021 to 2031.
We hope to see the plans brought to fruition in this fall semester. In the meantime, the
patio space outside the back half of Building 22, The Commons, remains open and available to
students and faculty.
