Argos Weekly Sports Round-Up: September 9–15
From hat tricks and shutouts to gold medal runs and perfect scores, the Argonauts were firing on all cylinders this past week. Across every sport, UWF athletes stepped up, showing the grit, talent, and teamwork that’s becoming a signature of Argonaut Nation.
Football
The Argonauts stayed perfect on the season with a convincing 42-20 win over Shorter on Sept. 14, and even recorded 3 interceptions during the game.
That same energy translated into conference recognition. Tony Newsome and Brogan Woeber both earned GSC Weekly Awards, a testament to the Argos’ dominance on both sides of the ball.
Men’s Soccer
It was a banner week for the men’s squad, who started off with a bang on Sept. 12 as Andrey Gentil notched a hat trick in a 5–1 rout of Rollins. Two days later, they kept the momentum going with a hard-fought 3–1 win over Embry-Riddle, improving both their record and their confidence.
Women’s Soccer
Defense wins games, and Belle Okoroafo proved that in goal. She recorded her second shutout of the season in a clean 2–0 win over Lynn on Sept. 11 and followed it up with another strong showing in a 0–0 draw against Tampa on Sept. 14.
With Okoroafo between the posts, opponents are finding it increasingly difficult to find the back of the net.
Volleyball
The Argos stormed through the Colorado Premier Challenge going 3-0 against #7 Ferris State and Regis, then 3-1 versus Missouri Western which secured them a spot into the Championship match on Sept. 13. While they fell just short in the gold medal showdown, the journey through the bracket proved that this team can hang with the best in the country.
Cross Country
The UWF Men’s Cross Country team earned a perfect score at the 6th Annual Argonaut Invitational on Sept. 13, a rare and powerful accomplishment that signals the depth and drive of this years’ crew.
Not to be outdone, the women’s team took first place for the second straight week, continuing to build momentum heading into the heart of the season. And freshman standout Carmichael earned GSC Freshman of the Week honors on Sept. 10.
Hall of Fame Class of 2025 Announced
On Sept. 12, UWF officially announced its 2025 Athletics Hall of Fame class, honoring Argos past who helped shape the legacy of the program. The new inductees represent the best of UWF sports history, and serve as inspiration for the current generation of student-athletes.
