Ahoy, mateys!
Prepare to set sail for adventure at the 69th Annual Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival, happening May 15–19, 2025, in the heart of Fort Walton Beach. This swashbuckling celebration, named after the legendary pirate William Augustus Bowles — better known as Billy Bowlegs — promises fun for all ages along the stunning Emerald Coast.
The festivities begin Thursday night with the pre-invasion, as Captain Billy Bowlegs and his Krewe arrive aboard their pirate ship parade float, the Blackhawk. They’ll be on hand for about two hours greeting children, posing for photos and handing out treasure to the community.
Friday’s festivities kick off at 5 p.m., when Captain Billy and some of his Krewe arrive by water at Fort Walton Beach Landing to scout the city. But the mayor of Fort Walton Beach and his forces are ready. They’ve threatened to arrest Captain Billy if he dares to land — setting the stage for a lively skirmish. Visitors can also enjoy food and drink vendors, arts and crafts booths, and live music, all leading up to a fireworks show over Santa Rosa Sound.
Saturday marks the full pirate invasion. Captain Billy and his crew officially take over the city. Expect a day filled with merriment and mischief as the pirates greet citizens and share their treasure. The Landing will host an all-day celebration featuring live music, an arts and crafts festival, and a wide variety of food and beverage vendors.
The festival concludes Monday with the Torchlight Parade. Captain Billy and the entire Krewe of Bowlegs will anchor the parade aboard five elaborate floats, celebrating their triumphant takeover. The parade will roll up Eglin Parkway from First Street to Hughes Street, with pirates tossing out loot to the cheering crowd.
Don’t forget to join the coin treasure hunt happening throughout the weekend — with clues pointing to hidden treasure stashed away by Captain Bowlegs himself.
