Last weekend, the UWF volleyball team hit the road to Tennessee for back-to-back matches against Lee University and Trevecca Nazarene University. Here’s a look at a typical game day for our team on the road.
We were off to an early start Thursday morning, loading up the bus and rolling out by 8 a.m. for the long haul to Cleveland, Tennessee. After arriving late that night, we went straight to the gym for a quick practice to shake off the travel fatigue. With a match scheduled for Friday evening, we had most of the day in Cleveland to prepare and unwind.
Friday morning started with breakfast and some quiet study time—athletes have homework, too! We then went over our scouting report and game plan for the night’s matchup. With a few hours to spare, we headed out to explore the area and enjoy a little downtime.
For lunch, we stopped at Panera Bread, right across the street from a shopping plaza. Some teammates ventured into TJ Maxx, Buff City Soap, HomeGoods, and Ulta to browse, shop, and kill time. Buff City Soap was a team favorite; everyone got to create custom soap scents and make their own products, which was a fun break from the usual routine.
We arrived at Lee University with plenty of time to relax and mentally prepare. The atmosphere was electric, but we stayed focused, playing strong and ultimately taking down the Flames in four sets. After a solid win, we loaded up the bus again and traveled to Nashville, where we’d face Trevecca Nazarene University the next day.
