PENSACOLA, FL- Homecoming week at the University of West Florida (UWF) is underway, and BigXThePlug is headlining the highly anticipated annual Colchis concert.
BigXThePlug, who has more than 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify, gained widespread attention with the music video for his breakout hit “Texas,” which has garnered 45 million views on YouTube.
The last three Colchis concerts featured prominent hip-hop acts such as NLE Choppa, Waka Flocka Flame, and Fetty Wap.
The event’s ticket release party, held on Oct. 8, 2024, attracted a large crowd.
“I feel pretty excited,” said one student. “This is my first homecoming. I’m a freshman at UWF, and it’s pretty cool.”
Eager students gathered at Cannon Green, awaiting the reveal of the “mystery artist.” The line, which stretched from the Commons to Building 12, moved slowly, giving students plenty of time to speculate.
Once they secured their tickets, attendees were welcomed to a transformed Cannon Green, which had been specially set up for the event. The party featured a DJ booth, games, and a projector screen with a two-hour countdown.
When the countdown ended, students quickly gathered around the inflatable screen that revealed a photo of BigXThePlug as the headliner for the Colchis concert.
“I thought it was going to be someone else,” said one attendee. “Not surprised, but not disappointed.”
Although the announcement initially received mixed reactions, many students remained optimistic about the upcoming concert.
“I’m not familiar with his music, but I have friends who are,” said another student. “I have some homework to do, but I know it’s going to be a great concert regardless.”
The annual Colchis Homecoming Concert will take place on Oct. 10, 2024, at the Field House from 7 to 10 p.m. For those who missed the initial ticket release, watch your student email for the possibility of redeeming unclaimed tickets.
