The Taylor Swift Eras Tour summer takeover continues into the fall as the millions of fans who flocked to stadiums can now see the concert from the comfort of movie theater seats. Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie will be released on Oct. 13, and tickets are quickly selling out.
Swift’s fans are buying movie tickets almost a month in advance, an occurrence uncommon with other popular motion pictures. The movie theaters in Pensacola are attempting to keep up with this demand by creating many more showtimes than other movies playing on the same days.
At Pensacola’s AMC Bayou 15, the first two showings of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” were already sold out a month in advance. However, the following days after the original release date are filled with as many as 11 showings per day.
For those who may not consider themselves to be part of the fanbase, the reasoning behind going to a movie about a concert is questionable.
A University of West Florida student explains why she will be in theaters on opening day even though she already went to the live concert during the summer.
“I want to experience the concert again and kind of feel what I felt when I was there,” the student said. “I get to see it from a different perspective. The concert was so amazing that I forgot parts of it because I was so shocked. Now I can relive that night.”
The dedication of Swift’s fans is widely known even by the directors and producers of other major motion pictures. “The Exorcist: Believer” had a change in release date solely due to it having the same original release date as this movie.
Swift chose Oct. 13 because 13 is her favorite number, while Blumhouse originally chose the same date because of the superstition behind it. In this case, Swift’s favorite number trumped a classic date for superstition, especially in horror movies.
Many expect The Eras Tour concert film to surpass the earnings of the biggest opening weekend of the year, Barbie. The film is attempting to earn at least $150 million for its opening weekend, which sounds attainable for the large audience the film attracts.
In a similar manner to the Barbie movie, viewers of Swift’s new movie plan to dress up to go to the theater. This notion of dressing up means that viewers will dress according to the different eras of Swift’s career.
UWF student, Layne Duffey, plans to dress up for the premier showing of The Eras Tour movie. Duffey has not yet attended The Eras Tour live concert but is planning to within the upcoming year.
“I probably won’t end up going as extreme as I would at the actual concert,” Duffey said. “I definitely will wear something resembling one of her albums.”
It is vital for those looking to attend the movie to buy tickets as soon as possible, even with the additional showings. The AMC theaters in Pensacola expect most of the showings on the release date to sell out.
The lines are expected to be longer than those for even the most anticipated motion pictures, so it is highly suggested to get to the theater early dressed according to an era.
