PENSACOLA,Fla. – The long-awaited game between the University of West Florida Argonauts and the Florida A&M Rattlers has finally come and morale for the Argos is high.
The Argos (2-0) are more than prepared to suit up for a much-anticipated game against the Rattlers (1-1) on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in Tallahassee.
“Our guys know it’s a big game, but our focus is doing our best and worrying about us,” Head Coach Kaleb Nobles said. “The game is going to be rocking, it’s going to be loud.”
Peewee Jarrett, senior quarterback for the Argos, has had an incredible season thus far, having completed an impressive 80% of his passes for 559 yards and 5 touchdowns with just 1 interception.
By comparison, Rattlers quarterback Jeremy Moussa has a 55.38% complete passing rate.
“To the general public, they might seem the most hyped team, but each week we only have one goal-to win,” senior defensive specialist Rodney McGraw II said.
The Argos have yet to lose to a D1 school since the program began in 2016.
“This is the only Florida team that we play this season, so winning will most definitely give us bragging rights.” Jarrett said.
Both teams feature a strong running attack. UWF senior running back CJ Wilson and Rattlers running back Jaquez Yatz are within 11 yards of each other for yards gained for the season. With 103 and 94 yards, respectively.
Defensively, the Argos have performed at a near-perfect level this season, having given up only 6 combined points over two contests.
Defensive lineman John McMullen, the reigning GSC Defensive Player of the Week, has made 8 tackles on the year with 5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. Byron Puryear, McMullen’s fellow defensive lineman, has 5 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 tackles for loss.
Argo pride will be radiating throughout the FAMU stadium this Saturday as lots of Argo fans are planning on making the journey to Tallahassee to see this game.
