Graduate student Tyler Fezzey and redshirt sophomore Veresia Yon led the West Florida Argonauts (17-1, 5-0 GSC) to a confident 3-0 win over West Alabama (0-11, 0-5 GSC), extending their win streak to 12 games.

UWF had a strong attack with 44 kills and 39 assists with Fezzey and Yon leading the team with 9 kills; Yon also picked up 9 blocks over three sets.

The Tigers tried to keep pace with the Argos but couldn’t overcome UWF’s offense. After cruising to a 25-15 and 25-10 win in the first two sets, the Argonauts began to falter slightly in their offense.

West Alabama took advantage, taking the lead on four different occasions in the third set, but the Tigers could not overcome losing multiple points before scoring again.

It was freshman Avery Rodgers nearly matching her career-high with 5 kills – four of them coming in the closely contested third set.

Ultimately, West Florida easily dispatched West Alabama to extend their unbeaten streak in the conference and at home.

UWF’s next match is against Alabama Huntsville, who have only beaten UWF six times out of the 32 times they’ve previously met.

In their previous meeting, UWF came away with a close win, barely edging out Huntsville 3 sets to 2.

The matchup is at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5 in Huntsville, Alabama.
