Foo Foo Fest 2018: Pensacola exhibits art, food, entertainment
By Sean Minton
The 5th annual Foo Foo Fest started Nov. 1st though Nov. 12th in Downtown Pensacola. This event, for those who may not know, highlights the various talents and arts that Pensacola has to offer over 12 days.
With so many events happening, it is hard to keep track of the several festivities going on, but some events go on for multiple days giving participants flexibility to attend as many activities as they can.
When it comes to food, Foo Foo Fest has the “Tastes of Japan” from Nov. 5th through the 9th at SoGourmet. Hosted by the Japan-America Society of Northwest Florida, event goers can observe ways to make sushi, taste everyday meals commonly made in Japan, and enjoy a night of drinking sake. Besides food, for the entirety of Foo Foo Fest there will be “Science on the Street,” interactive biased illusions that people are allowed to get hands-on experience with. Located on Palafox Street, local scientists will do illusion demonstrations, and attendees will also have opportunities to make their own illusions.
Besides the open activities for everyone to enjoy, the Mess Hall will also host an interactive show for adults by the Improbable Cause Mystery Theatre Nov. 8th. More information on “Science on the Street” and other scientific events can be found here https://www.foofoofest.com/events/science-on-the-street/
Last year artists painted on large cubes at Foo Foo Fest, and this year the cubes were brought back, but instead of featuring just paint, the cubes will feature digital art with “Cubed Luminous.” From Nov. 8th though Nov. 11th at the UWF Historic Trust’s Museum Plaza, digital art will be projected onto cubes for visitors to observe for the closing of the festival.
Attendees will be exposed to live music at night, but during the day also have the opportunity to paint on a temporary wall and small cubes with black light paint. For more information on “Cubed Luminous” visit https://www.foofoofest.com/events/cubed/
One of the most popular events that is toward the end of the festival is the Pensacola Marathon. On Nov. 11th from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., locals are able to participate in the 14th annual Pensacola Marathon.
The race starts and finishes at Veterans Memorial Park and runners are allowed to either do the full marathon at 26.2 miles or a separate route for half the distance at 13.1 miles. Though this event is in Florida, the temperature is expected to reach around 60 degrees, so runners should be cautious.
These were just a handful of the events going on at Foo Foo Fest. For more details, updates and a list of the other events going on at the Festival visit its main facebook page at Foo Foo Festival or its website https://www.foofoofest.com
