The University of West Florida’s Men’s basketball team is preparing for a weekend in Saint Leo, Florida. The Argos are currently ranked number fourth in the Gulf South Conference.
They are scheduled to play the University of Tampa (2-0-0) Friday, at 3:30 p.m. and Saint Leo (0-2) Saturday at 4 p.m.
“Game prep is always important to us,” head coach Jeff Burkhamer said. “We worked really hard early in the week on things that we must do well or better than the first weekend of games. We also added a couple of sets and special situation plays for the trip. Otherwise, we have watched film and worked on making sure our players have a good idea on what Tampa is going to do and how we want to defend them.”
Tampa University has both their wins from two GSC teams— Montevallo and Alabama-Huntsville. However, Saint Leo has both of their losses to Montevallo and Alabama-Huntsville.
West Florida and Tampa both have a record of 2-0-0. This will be a game to see.
“I feel like both teams present equal challenges,” senior point guard Rashaan Benson said. “I know that they are two teams that play really hard and they are in a great conference. I feel like if we come out play our game and execute well, we will be fine.”
The Argos are coming off of a very strong 2017 season and are started on the right path to finish where they have left off.
“Just trying to get back to the top and win the championship again,” Benson said. “I feel like as the leader it’s my job to get the guys going and ready for what’s to come.”
