September preview for CAB: comedy, open mic night, and more!
By Jamie Calvert
UWF’s Campus Activity Board, commonly known as CAB, is considered one of the “Big Three” among campus student involvement; the other two being Fraternity and Sorority Life and Student Government. It is a student-run and event-based organization, providing the student body with entertainment and programming all year long.
“This year we’ll have an event every Thursday,” CAB vice president Alex Mckinnie said. “Times and locations sometimes vary, but for the most part they are held in the commons auditorium in the evening.”
For students, CAB events highlight many student’s weeks at UWF.
“I always liked CAB events, but this year they’re really stepping it up,” senior Mitchell Brooks said. “I heard they’re having events every week and on Thursday nights. That’s kinda known as ‘College Night’ downtown, so this is a good way for students to enjoy themselves, be safe and enjoy campus life without having to leave.”
CAB will be hosting several events in the month of September:
Stand-up comedian Ian Lara will be the star of CAB’s Comedy Night, held on Sep. 13 in the commons auditorium from 7:00-9:00 p.m. This will be an event for students to come out and enjoy a night of big laughs.
Open Mic Night, perhaps one of the most popular of the fall semester, is set for Sep. 27 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Singers, poets, spoken word artists and more are invited to step up to the mic and share their talents for a mellow night of showcasing UWF’s talents. Performers can sign up at the event.
You have a minute to win it. CAB’s Game Night will be hosted on Sep. 27 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in (you guessed it!) the commons auditorium. Minute to Win It games will be the focus of the event, with prizes and bragging rights up for grabs.
CAB events are always free to all UWF students with the presentation of their Nautilus card.
