The University of West Florida women’s soccer defeated Christian Brothers on Tuesday with a score of 4-1 to advance them to the semifinals of the GSC tournament.

The Argos scored quickly when sophomore midfielder Isabella Garcia scored after an assist from sophomore forward Leonie Kreil in the first minute of the game to put them 1-0.

“I saw the ball bouncing near the goal and I knew I had to get to it no matter what,” Garcia said.

The lead would not last forever as Christian Brothers scored off of a free kick that was headed in by junior midfielder Sinead Tierney to even the game at 1-1.

The Argos responded quickly as junior forward Shantell Thompson scored from a free kick of her own to give the lead back the Argos. About two minutes later, UWF scored another goal from Kreil and took a 3-1 lead heading into halftime

The Argos were dominant in the first half as they outshot the Lady Bucs in the first half with 15 shots compared to Christian Brothers who only had two shots.

The game was competitive in the second half with both sides struggling to score. However, after some miscommunication between Christian Brother’s goalkeeper and defender, UWF senior Georgia Bailey scored in the late minutes to secure an Argos win.

“It’s up to them now, they know there is no more tactics that need to be discussed we just have to play with a high level of intensity,” Coach Joe Bartlinski said following his team’s 4-1 victory.

The Argos will now face the 2nd seed Mississippi College in the semifinals of the GSC tournament at Montgomery at 5 p.m. this Friday.
