The University of West Florida Historic Trust invites students to take a journey back in time at the Arcadia Mill Archaeological Site with “Sawmills and Skirmishes: Civil War Tour of Arcadia Mills.”

The tours will be held at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 5709 Mill Pond Lane in Milton. Prices are $4 for adults and $2 for children ages 3-16.

The Arcadia Mill Site is 39 acres of rich Santa Rosa County history. Visitors can view replicas of equipment that was once used, and see the natural beauty of the site while a costumed tour guide teaches about the role the site played during the Civil War.

These tours give local visitors a chance to learn about local history and provide a hands-on approach to learning this period, according to Krystal Johnson, an Arcadia Mill educator.

Visitors can enjoy making a handkerchief doll, try their hand making a candle, or let the kids dress up in Civil War outfits.  Johnson said she wanted to make the tour child friendly to appeal to younger children.

This is the last chance this year to tour the site. Tickets can be purchased online at  historicpensacola.org/arcadia.cfm or in the visitor’s center.
